My first ever blog

Hello, and welcome to my first ever blog. The idea of setting up this site is certainly not to shove my recommendations down your throat ! Although some of them might slip down rather easily.

No, the purpose is to document my search for interesting wines at a price that won’t make you weep into your riedel stemware. I hope you will find some of my comments interesting and maybe even useful in your own quest.

I guess you may think that I should start with the biggest news story of the year, the 2009 vintage Bordeaux campaign. I will try and not disappoint as this will be the subject of my next blog. It was my first time buying wine “en primeur” and what great fun it turned out to be.

I have no affiliations with anyone in the wine trade. I buy most of wine in the UK from Berry Bros, From Vineyards Direct and Gauntley’s here in Nottingham as well as one or two smaller merchants.

My current favourite wines are from Rhone valley. I managed to stock up on the excellent 2007 vintage and some of these are coming in to their own now.

About Man et Vin

I am a 47 year old living in Nottingham. Maybe, like me, you have become disillusioned by the quality and variety of most wine that is sold in the UK. I am not anti supermarket or wine store but there must be more out there. Please join me on my journey to find decent good value wine. At the same time I want to find out more about storage, availablity and discover some of the lesser known wine growing areas. I have nothing to do with the wine industry, as it happens I am a middle manager in a financial services company.
